And, they mentioned Boaz by name! For those of you for whom popular television culture isn't all consuming (as it is for me) White Collar features a very slick art thief/con man played by the very slick young actor Matt Bomer who, after an unfortunate incarceration, is forced to help the FBI on high-end crimes. This week's episode found them in the home of a young trustifarion whose art collection was the target of a nasty, but attractive, thief. If you really don't have an hour to invest in this kind of eye-candy, you can catch Boaz' piece on Hulu at http://www.hulu.com/watch/127084/white-collar-home-invasion?c=1185:1310

You may have to sign up for a Hulu account to see the video clip, but it's free and who knows? Donated by a private donor, the park's restoration will celebrate the 100th anniversary of Tel Aviv.

"It is a great honor to have one of my sculptures permanently placed in Independence Park, Tel Aviv, Israel - the country I grew up in and which so profoundly shaped my artistic sensibility," Boaz commented.

He grew up on a farm in Gat Rimon, and was inspired by the nature around him. "I work with nature as an equal partner, that's still the strongest thing I deal with today that primal connection of man to earth. It's in the materials I use, the environments I make and the way I work." Vaadia hand-carves slices of slate and bluestone, shaping them to be layers in a kind of topographical map. He stacks the horizontal slabs until the graded silhouette of a person, animal or group emerges. He views the geological layering of the stone as a natural model for his own sculptural process. It seems a logical metaphor for our human layering of experience and memory.

Vaadia continues the process by casting select pieces in bronze, creating a limited edition. paired with his sculptures are glacial boulders which function visually as counterpoints to the figures. his work appears as though created by natural forces, such as wind and water; they look simultaneously ancient and futuristic, as if the workmanship forms a bridge from the Stone Age to the digital age.

Boaz Vaadia lives and works in New York City.

What is Contemporary Art?

E-Flux has an article that might jump-start some dinner party conversation. Judd is really too young to have a true retropective, but this exhibition, curated by Allen Sheppard, brings together many wonderful works and includes a recreation of the rustic cabin in which Judd and family spent holidays in his youth. The exhibition Evidence of a Collected Past: A Retrospect can be seen by appointment only at The Globe Dye Works, 4500 Worth Street Philadelphia, PA until later this month. Call 212 989-9919 for an appointment. There is a catalogue available to accompany the exhibition.

News from Miya Ando

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 186px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_A3Pt0bQOyUw/SxhJ6QPUB6I/AAAAAAAAANs/Gqerjs1Nstg/s320/HUCKMiyaAndoIndigoYouthMovementlores.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5411156217426085794" />
Miya Ando's work continues to astonish and herself to inspire. She recently began a new series of steel canvases titled "Luminous Transcendent" which are, in fact, luminous in the dark. Called Metaphysical Abstraction: Contemporary Approaches to Spiritual Content, the exhibition is curated by Jamie Brunson and Michelle Mansour and looks to be an introduction to work by young artists whose work gives rise to the deeper questions that much of our most significant art does. We're posting late, so if you're in the Bay area this month, be sure to take a look. Seemingly to the contrary, he approaches his theme through the various human practices surrounding death and burial. His first installment was a meditation on the Tomb of the Red Queen, the burial site at Palenque from 600 AD of a Mayan princess. The sarcophagus was covered in a brilliant red pigment called cinnebar and although the body of the princess itself was no longer there, the color and the experience of absence, along with the stones of the pyramid itself and the jungle beyond provided the inspiration for Mazal's phenomenal body of work. In 2007, Mazal made a journey to Michelstadt, Germany, where friends took him to one of their favorite places, the forest of Friewald, or the Peace Forest. Sited in the Odenwald area of Germany, between the Rhine, Main and Neckar rivers, this forest has become a burial site for families in a unique and ecologically thoughtful way. Each tree can be leased for 99 years; as members of the family die they are cremated, placed in biodegradable urns and buried near the roots of their tree. This return of life to the living earth provided the impetus for the next series in the trilogy, Odenwald 1152. 1152 refers to his own tree, which the mayor of the region insisted Mazal lease even though Mazal explained that as a Mexican and a Jew he would not actually be buried there. Nonetheless, the mayor wanted to be part of the project by securing a tree for the family and when Mazal found the ancient tree whose 4' trunk divided into four parts, symbolizing for him himself, his wife and their two daughters, it provided the emotional and conceptual anchor for the work. Mazal first produces a number of photographs which stand alone as important works of art, but which he then manipulates on the computer to create images that will become paintings. Anne Reed Gallery was honored to present a number of the photographs in an exhibition last year, and now the monumental paintings can be seen at El Museo de Arte de Queretaro in Mexico City. This extraordinary trilogy will be completed with the images resulting from this summer's trip to Mount Kailish in Tibet where the "Sky Burials", bodies placed on elevated platforms without sold enclosures, acknowledge the departure of the significant portion of a human being upon death and the recyling of the remaining organic material, the body, back to the earth either through nourishing the birds and animals who eat it or through natural decomposition. This powerful body of work will be one of the most significant events in contemporary art in the decade and we encourage you to follow Mazal's progress as we certainly will.

You can see a wonderful interview with Ricardo Mazal where this and much more is explained at: http://artworksmagazine.com/2009/03/ricardo-mazal/ The only caveat is that while Ricardo describes his photographing of the jungle at Palenque the images shown are those of Odenwald. Still, it gives great insight into his process and also into the humanity of this amazing artist.

<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 320px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_A3Pt0bQOyUw/SuH-LztT5bI/AAAAAAAAAM8/z1dq0pEV-xc/s320/MARZO+1.05+FINAL+(MAIL).jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5395873307378836914" />

Marzo 7.05 from Tomb of the Red Queen.

Luxe and Lucid - a new design blog from Tricia Huntley!

One of Anne Reed Gallery's design friends has started a new blog that is candy for the style and design aficionados among us. The exhibition, curated by Holly E. Hughes, contains seventy works on loan from the collection of James J. Curtis. In addition to the brilliantly colored, folded steel, three-dimensional sculptures, original maquettes of each work and other preparational materials will also be on display. It should give a unique insight into the creative process of this American Master. The exhibition will be up for one year, and is a must-see for the serious student of sculpture.
http://www.albrightknox.org/exhibitions/fletcherbenton.html

Roseanne Cash on Dan Rizzie

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 250px; height: 310px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_A3Pt0bQOyUw/StUHofAnB0I/AAAAAAAAAMk/DM_PkKeVfcE/s320/Nutty+Torch.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5392224520946255682" />
Dan Rizzie is one of our favorite painters, and now we find that one of our favorite singer/songwriters is a fan as well! It's like listening to a familiar piece of music played on a different instrument - the individual voice remains, but is given fresh dimension and flavor by the incorporation of the new. Sculptor Boaz Vaadia has given us exactly this experience in his new work from Basalt Columns. Known for his work in bronze and Bluestone, the new material opens up possibilities for wonderful exploration in future.

Boaz says this about the work: "I am excited about
those pieces as they incorporate a new stone that I have not used before:
Basalt Column that was formed naturally by volcanoes. I am very excited
about this new body of work and I am still learning how to work with the
Basalt Columns."

See more of Boaz Vaadia's work at http://www.vaadia.com/stonework/bigstone/shallum.shtml

Ba'al with Cat
Bronze, Basalt, Bluestone
47 x 77 x 50 inches. His photographs span four decades in black and white and vibrant color. We'e thrilled that word of the fine quality of Feinstein's work has gotten out. Here is a link to the blog of Jim Fitts, Executive Dir. of the Photographic Resource Center in Boston.
http://jimfitts.wordpress.com/2009/04/08/15/

You can see more of Harold's black and white photography at the Houston Fotofest website. In her new installation in Atrio de San Francisco, an open-air plaza in the heart of downtown Mexico City, old Volkswagon Beetles are attached to each other in a daisy chain that arcs over the plaza. Another sedan is covered in the colorful handmade tiles of a traditional Mexican kitchen, transforming the cold metal into a warm symbol of family. Romero is interested in the part cars play in human life - getting us from place to place is the least of it. She recognizes that cars are often the site of sexual initiation, sometimes they are our only shelter from the elements when houses fail, but also can be places where life can come to an abrupt end. They are often dangerous targets for kidnappers and for thieves. In a city where traffic routinely turns the air and residents' lungs grey with exhaust fumes, Romero fills an old VW bus with planet healing green plants. Romero uses homely materials to transform vehicles; her art may suggest many things, but remains an exciting and comfortable experience.

Watch Betsabee Romero describe her work in a video by Deborah Bonello, a multi-media journalist based Mexico City.
http://www.mexicoreporter.com/?p=1663

Robert Buelteman Signs of Life

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 214px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_A3Pt0bQOyUw/SezzZTzu2NI/AAAAAAAAAL0/IdeiBztOEso/s320/Cyclamen+persicum.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5326900075411986642" />
Congratulations to Robert Buelteman whose new book, Signs of Life, is available today. ART REVIEW
Works From New Talent Seeking a Boldface Name. Our very own Miya Ando gets a thumbs up review. "Miya Ando’s refined, subtle works of rolled steel, made of sheets of burnished and chemically treated metal, are also a must-see for anyone interested in post-minimalist contemporary art." He was referring to the current exhibition at Rupert Ravens Contemporary, Newark’s newest major commercial gallery. We feel the same way. Miya’s installation was one of the most successful of last year’s gallery exhibitions. We concur with the enthusiasm of critic, Benjamin Gennocio. Check out Miya’s work under ARTISTS/Paintings on this website.

http://www.nytimes.com/2009/03/08/nyregion/new-jersey/08artsnj.html?ref=design

Josh Garber in Sculpture Magazine

Check out Josh Garber's work and a great article by Kathleen Whitney in the March issue of Sculpture magazine. Beginning with his series on La Tumba de la Reina Roja (The Tomb of the Red Queen), a Mayan burial site in Mazal's native Mexico, and continuing with the Odenwald burial trees, Ricardo will finish the triptych with a journey to Mount Kailash’s sky burials, Tibet, in 2009.

Thomas Brummett at NDMoA

<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 320px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_A3Pt0bQOyUw/SYH3tyuN_8I/AAAAAAAAAJs/zhYP7X8gf80/s320/Bear1.30x30final-1.gif" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5296787002846216130" />
Selections from Thomas Brummett's new series Animalis are on view at The North Dakota Museum of Art in a group exhibition titled Animals: Them and Us, until February 7, 2009. On the heels of her successful solo exhibition at Anne Reed Gallery, Miya has received a number of prestigious commissions. She was selected to produce 144 works for a non-denominational chapel in New York City, and her work has been added to the collection of the former head priest of Daitoku-ji, Japan's most important Zen temple. She has also been commissioned to produce a large work for the Against the Stream Buddist Meditation Society/Dharma Punx in Los Angeles. The work will be unveiled Spring 2009.

You can see Miya in Nylon Magazine's December/January issue in an Element ad and in the television commercial for their Power to the Planet promotion. http://www.powertotheplanet.tv/video/

She was also interviewed for The Epoch Times Newspaper which will be translated into 10 languages.

Congratulations to Miya on such a productive and inspiring year!

Thomas Ostenberg 2008 in Review

2008 has been an exciting year for Thomas Ostenberg. It began with the news that his sculpture was being considered for the 2012 London Olympics. Wilfred Cass, who expects to finance as many as 50 new sculptures for the Olympics, was quoted as saying that London deserves to have great sculpture, yet much of the contemporary public art on display in the English capital was "rubbish". He considers Ostenberg's work to be ideal for the Olympics and will serve to enhance the London Public art scene as well. There is also a proposal being put forward for an Olympics-related exhibition at the Tate museum, with Ostenberg's name and sculpture being specifically mentioned. This group exhibition would occur in the time leading up to the 2012 Olympics, with the work exhibited at the Tate being placed around the city in time for the main events.

In the spring he received an invitation from the prestigious Glyndbourne Opera Festival in southern England to be their featured sculptor for the 2008 season. It seems the frenetic—even if festive and rejuvenating—pace of summer makes the season race by ever faster, year after year. We saw many of our dear friends and loyal clients in the gallery during the last few months, often between forays into our trails and waterways, and we are so pleased to have a few moments to catch up. Thank you all for stopping in to see us!

We are happy to congratulate sculptor Fletcher Benton for receiving the Lifetime Achievement Award from the venerable International Sculpture Center at the beginning of the season. Gallery owner, Barbi Reed, was fortunate to be able to attend the awards ceremony in San Francisco, and to visit with Fletcher and his wife in his studio space in the city, and at their beautiful Napa home and garden. We have been thrilled to have three of his monumental works here in our sculpture garden, plus several more intimately scaled works in the gallery during the summer. What luck for all of you who were able to see these master works here and on the Sun Valley Writers’ Conference grounds near our fabulous new Sun Valley Pavilion. If your busy summer calendar kept you from visiting the gallery, be sure to come as soon as you can to see this wonderful collection of Fletcher’s work.

The City of Ketchum has been hard at work over the past two years redesigning our Fourth Street corridor into a wonderful promenade of wide walkways, trees, flowers, and artwork from local galleries and artists. Anne Reed Gallery was pleased to install two of Josh Garber’s fluid, organic sculptures along Fourth Street for the season, enticing tourists and locals alike to interact with a fascinating variety of works as they enjoy the many cafes and shops along our new pedestrian thoroughfare.

Katina Huston’s shadow drawings of bicycle elements took on a whole new appearance as they were translated through an on-site collaboration with Sweden’s Edition Vulfovitch and Jarla Grafik. Read more about her adventure in our “Artist News” as she shares the story of working with Igor Vulfovitch, and master printer John Akerlund “across four languages; Swedish, English, Russian, and Art.”

Anne Reed Gallery entered the peak of our busy summer season with an exhibition of Miya Ando’s serene works on steel. We congratulate Miya on receiving a public commission for 100 pieces to be installed in a non-denominational chapel in New York. Her work has also been added to the collection of the former head priest of Japan’s most important Zen temple, Daitoku-ji.

And so, it has been a whirlwind summer for the gallery and for our hardworking artists who continue to push the envelope of their vision and media. Come back to our blog often as we share more tidbits about life at the gallery, news about our artists, and events to keep on your radar. Thank you all, again, for your cherished support and affection.

Barbi Reed and Miya Ando Stanoff on PLUM TV

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp1.blogger.com/_A3Pt0bQOyUw/SIpMdI5Z_xI/AAAAAAAAABs/Ds3nAj1bmzE/s320/Miya_portrait.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5227074381005061906" />
Anne Reed Gallery was thrilled to have work by New York artist Miya Ando Stanoff this month. Skiing on our beloved Baldy is finished for the season, but high country trails are still snowbound for the intrepid. For those of us anxious to move on, cycling on lower roads and paths is possible if riders layer enough clothing to protect from the cold wind. The gallery’s sculpture garden is finally visible again even though there is still snow in some places out there. Come by for an early season peek before a few of our favorites happily move on to new homes. In other springtime news, we’re happy to report the following good notes from some of our artists.

Boaz Vaadia was featured in Art & Antiques magazine’s April issue. Look for him and his work in an in-depth article entitled Force of Nature by Dana Micucci. In June, you can find him in Sculpture magazine. We’re very proud of this hard-working sculptor and enormously pleased to represent him.

Painter Catherine Courtenaye contributed her ethereal paintings to The Bark magazine in April. Look for her works in the article Literary Dogs by D.L. This is Muffet Jones, Anne Reed Gallery's new director. I joined the staff last summer and shortly thereafter Barbi asked me to take on the position of Gallery Director which I was delighted to do. We have had an amazing few months - record snowfalls in the West have made it a banner year for guests to our area - and our blog has fallen behind in all the (very nice) furor. But now we're on the cusp of Spring and have a little time to catch our breath. This means that I will try to shoulder some of Barbi's burden on the ARG blog as well as in the gallery.

Helping me with this and other tasks will be the newest members of our team, Deb Gelet and Mary Corrock. Deb comes to us with invaluable experience both in gallery management and in public relations. She has been a successful freelance writer and magazine editor, and continues to write for many of the best Western art and design publications. Look for her cover article on the famous Sturdivant Garden of the Sun Valley area in the Spring edition of Western Art and Architecture. Mary began her arts career in 1979 working for the King County Arts Commission in Seattle which initiated the first "Percent for Art" program in the country. In Ketchum she has worked for the Sun Valley Center for the Arts and has brought her awesome organizational skills to bear on events like the Sun Valley Wine Auction and other important community happenings. With Jennie Buehler doing a fantastic job as registrar and Jorge Otzoy continuing as our wonderful art handler and facility manager, our team is ready to make 2008 the best yet for Anne Reed Gallery, our artists, clients and community!

Check back with us often - there will be fresh news on the art front from our outpost here in the mountains and from all over the world!

Plum TV Interviews Barbi Reed

Barbi Reed (B. Joshua Jensen-Nagle creates poignant photographs of the animals with whom we share our world; Mathias Kessler brings stunning photographs of the shrinking ice flows of Greenland, and Mary Mattingly shares her vision of humans in a starkly beautiful new future. Plum TV covered the exhibition for its Earth Bytes segment. A new director, when I find THE RIGHT person, will complete the staff. In the meantime, I am assuming the role of director/owner. After 25 years in the gallery business, this comes naturally. If you continue to check the website, you’ll see the daily changes we’re making as we focus our energies on expanding our visibility. We shall have a presence on ArtNet by next week. International Art Fairs are also in the works. All of us welcome any inquiry you might have. The gallery will be open 7 days a week starting June 25. We look forward to seeing you in the gallery or hearing from you via phone or e-mail.

Barbi Reed

Muffet Jones joins ANNE REED GALLERY’s staff

I’m happy to report the addition of Muffet Jones to ANNE REED GALLERY’s staff.

Muffet returns to Idaho, where she was born and raised, bringing with her extensive experience acquired in New York City. Naumburg Foundation in the Julliard School, Lincoln Center.

- Barbi Reed

Responses to e-announcements

It’s summer in Sun Valley! The trees are leafed out, bicyclists are riding in packs and the gallery doors are open to the sweet smell of cut grass.

ANNE REED GALLERY has never had such overwhelming response (including to fabulous holiday gifts we used to bestow) than we’ve received for sending e-announcements rather than paper announcement cards. Below are some of the comments sent (via e-mail, of course!). Thanks to all of you who wrote and who support us in our efforts to do our part to lower greenhouse gases.

Bravo, look forward to hearing from you online.

Hooray!

Thank you very much for sending your e-announcements. Thanks for taking the time to make a difference. We will continue to visit the gallery when in Sun Valley - walking - of course!!! - and will look forward to the electronic updates....

Wonderful news! I look forward to receiving your e-mailed announcements. I have never read so succinctly stated the effects of a mass mailing. While I love receiving your cards, I will look forward to receiving them electronically, printing the ones I want to keep and deleting the ones that don't speak to me so strongly. Someday, I hope to visit the gallery and see the work for real!

Bravo!!

A good call!

Hats off to Anne Reed Gallery! When I think of all the unsolicited junk mail I throw in the recycle bin every day it makes my stomach turn. Your announcements are one of the few I do enjoy receiving. However, I will be just as happy to receive them through my e-mail. Thank you.

A great decision. I applaud you.

Love your new thoughts and efforts to do something about our global warming problems. keep me on your email list, look forward to them in the future.

Thank you! I love your new online announcements. Good job!

I loved your message and agree totally that we have to find ways to reduce our global footprints. The evening could not have been more successful: the weather was beautiful as several hundred people wandered through our gallery spaces enjoying the camaraderie and the art!

Every exhibition opening has its own “feel”. This particular evening had great energy from the moment the first viewers entered the gallery. The audience was sophisticated, the mood was enthusiastic and the greater percentage of attendees spent time with the art as well as with each other!

Solo exhibitions by Dan Rizzie (North Gallery Space) and Sally Anderson (South Gallery) and Roni Stretch (West Space) proved a wonderful combination with which to open our season! The response to all the installations was overwhelmingly enthusiastic. Dan’s works on paper received rave comments as his distinctive floral iconography set an optimistic tone. Sally’s multi-layered Mylar, acrylic and wax paintings drew viewers up-close, for an examination of her technique and then pushed them back for an appreciation of their visual impact. The Dichromatic paintings by Roni captivated viewers’ attention and held their interest for minutes at a time. What a perfect start to the summer!

- B. Although we still like to make marks in that pristine blanket, other footprints have become more significant…i.e. our global footprint.

Knowledge about greenhouse gas emissions brings us at ANNE REED GALLERY to a landmark change: you will no longer be receiving our carefully executed cards announcing new exhibitions.

In a cursory look, we became aware of the following:

ARG announcement cards consumed annually over 49 square miles of paper (that does NOT count the envelopes, which added another 96 plus square miles!) Each card traveled (that means carbon emissions!) an average of two thousand miles to arrive at its intended addressee!

Let’s backtrack for a moment. Consider the emissions from the humongous trucks that drove to retrieve the trees and haul their load to the paper mills. (We’ve stopped before considering the emissions released while building wilderness roads!)

Now factor in pulp and paper mills, considered among the worst polluters. Add the fact that, the newly made, beautiful glossy paper we used for our announcements, had to be transported (more emissions!) to the press, hundreds of miles away. The domino effect is wide-ranging and we have barely delved beyond the tip of the iceberg in our analysis.

Now consider the trail didn’t end when our card reached its destination. Even our most devoted collectors, at times, discarded our cards. The end for the card would be nearing but not the globing warming potential (GPW). Disposal sites that allow burning or land fills that rely on decaying create additional greenhouse gases.

In view of the above, we at ANNE REED GALLERY have made the commitment to send e-announcements. We hope you’ll look forward to receiving them and respect our decision in sending them.

Speaking of electronic communication, remember to check out our newly launched website which includes this blog that promises to keep you updated on what’s happening here in the gallery and with our artists, as well as what’s new in the global art world!

Join us in helping to stop global warming!

- B. As of this spring, L’Anne has been putting her energies toward her own gallery, ending her faithful service to our gallery and gallery artists. We wish her much success in this new venture which has been a long term dream. Changes often turn out to be best for all involved and although it is with sadness that we say goodbye to L’Anne and to other staff who have left, we at Anne Reed Gallery are taking this opportunity to restructure. We are in the process of looking for a very strong and experienced director to take the gallery to new
levels. In the meantime, I am back at the helm, examining and re-examining our needs and the direction the gallery will move. As a result, exciting things are already beginning
to happen.

Jennie Buehler has come on board as the new registrar. Jennie has brought with her an incredible sense of organization, a personality that is calm, and a mind that is quick. She has absorbed with ease immense amounts of information and is already invaluable.

In addition, Jessica Polichetti is back on board...unfortunately not for as long as we’d like, but long enough to make lasting changes for us. Jessica started out as an intern with us six years ago. Since then she graduated with degrees in Japanese and Fine Art from the University of Montana and has spent two years studying in Japan. Although she is headed back to Japan, she is revamping our website, allowing us the opportunity to start new projects such as this blog. Jessica is on the cutting edge of the electronic world and is bringing us not only up to speed, but allowing us to move ahead of the curve.

Which brings me to another big change: we are no longer going to be sending postcard announcements of new shows. We learned that our exhibition announcements used over forty-nine square miles of paper each year on top of creating countless ounces of carbon emissions by having to travel an approximate distance of two thousands miles per card. It seemed that the only way we could have a clear conscience is by switching to e-announcements and we plan to send what will be our "historical first" at the end of this month. Hopefully other galleries will chose this means of communicating, exponentially allowing us all to feel pride in attempting to reverse this planet's current path.

- B. ANNE REED GALLERY's summer exhibitions do all of that and more.

In July, in the North Gallery, Jason Wheatley's oil paintings, with disparate images from koi to pelicans, magpies to monkeys co-mingled with precariously balanced elements, are intriguing and mesmerizing. A second look is required and greater appreciation of Wheatley’s imagination is the result.

Meanwhile in the South Gallery, Timothy McDowell's beautiful canvases, inspired by organic botanical forms and nature in its expansiveness, are pure poetry. Making his own paint using encaustic formulas thousands of years old, McDowell's palette resonates with hues of past centuries.

In August, ANNE REED GALLERY will be exhibiting work matched to the title "Given a Choice". This installation will feature works selected by the gallery's owner, Barbi Reed, who considers herself fortunate to indeed have the "choice" to select from a wide range of amazing work by equally amazing nationally and internationally recognized artists.

During both months, don’t miss a stroll through the gallery's sculpture garden's maze-like paths.

- B.
